Teachers’ World: A Reality side

As a teacher, as well as a researcher, I did a lot of surveys and research in schools during my career. Currently, or perhaps, for the past fifty years or so, there is an increasing tendency to blame the teachers for the lack of standards in student performance, teachers do this, they don’t do that, etc kind of media reports, seminaes and conferences about deteriorating quality of teachers , etc. [These are all very well known now]. In addition to this, there is a lot of global discussion and debate about disciplinary actions taken by the teachers - in the context of learning as well as discipline and behavior.

All the advanced countries have created special laws to protect students by law if a teacher happened to induce ‘corporal punishment’. Recently, the news of a teacher being suspended for punishing a handicapped child [in Orissa] was given a big head line and three column report in a national newspaper.

All this imply that the only one or ultimate place where a child develop its potentials and behavioral competencies is the School..!

In reality, the hapless teachers have been always doing their job or work. There has been no ‘red-tapism’, or ‘delayed reaction’, or corruption and bribery, or unethical-antisocial-criminal negligence among the community of teachers. And, above all, I don’t think that a school has ever made a criminal or antisocial-unethical element. Perhaps, the attention of the society and its praised institutions should turn toward the so-called parenting quality of the parents. I strongly believe that not only such antisocial elements but even poor learners are actually created by the home environment. Not the school or teachers.

Now, I wanted to make only one point, and that is in this backdrop. That, in my knowledge not even a single instance has been reported about a person being corrupt, antisocial, criminal, etc
